Wedding Photography FAQ
What is your style?
I'm a candid, or documentary style photographer. I blend into events by dressing appropriately and becoming part of the crowd. My approach captures authentic moments between you and your loved ones rather than posed shots. I remain unobtrusive to keep you relaxed and natural.
During portraits, I provide direction when needed but I always prioritise capturing genuine emotional connection — that moment. My friendly, laid-back demeanour helps couples feel comfortable so the real you comes through in every photo. You can see examples of my style in my portfolio.
Should I get a second photographer?
While not mandatory, a second photographer is recommended. One photographer can capture the day adequately, but two sets of eyes and cameras ensure broader coverage and capture moments that might otherwise be missed.
I frequently collaborate with my wife, Sarah, who is excellent with couples. The investment in a second photographer adds significant value to the final album. See the packages page for pricing.
Why do we need a contract? Do you have insurance?
Contracts formalise the service agreement, protecting both parties if issues arise. They outline expectations and caveats. I maintain full public liability insurance and equipment coverage up to catastrophic failure, with backup cameras always present.
If any of your vendors do not have a contract or proof of insurance — DO NOT HIRE THEM.
We've paid our deposit but now have to cancel. Can we get that back?
The £500 deposit is non-refundable as it secures your date and prevents me from accepting other bookings for that day.
Cancellation fees apply based on timing:
- Within 3 months: £200 fee (£400 with second photographer)
- 2 months' notice: £500 fee (£700 with second photographer)
- After that point: Full remaining balance charged
What's your background?
Photography began at age 17 with a camera from my father. At university, I founded the Photography Society, running classes and events. I worked for a nightlife and events photography company, becoming award-winning and photographing across Europe.
Post-university, I managed a nationwide events business before going independent. My work has been featured by Topman, Topshop, and Lonely Planet.
Do you back up photos?
Files are backed up in three locations — physical media and cloud storage. RAW image files are retained for two years post-wedding, then deleted due to storage constraints (individual photos are approximately 50MB each).
Online albums persist indefinitely unless service providers change operations.
Do you do weddings abroad or at other destinations?
Yes! I work throughout the UK and internationally — I've even covered weddings in Australia. As a dual British-German national with two passports, I can travel throughout the EU without complications.
I have international experience, having attended school in Malaysia. Get in touch to discuss your destination wedding!
How do you handle my personal data and GDPR?
I take data protection seriously and comply fully with UK GDPR (the UK General Data Protection Regulation). Here's how I handle your information:
What I collect: I only collect personal information necessary to deliver my services — your names, contact details, wedding date, and venue. When you submit the contact form, I also record how you found me so I can understand which channels work best.
How I use it: Your data is used solely to communicate with you about your booking, deliver your photographs, and manage our contract. I will never share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Storage and security: Your personal details are stored securely. Wedding photographs are kept on encrypted hard drives and secure cloud storage, backed up in three separate locations. I retain RAW image files for two years after your wedding, after which they are permanently deleted. Your online gallery remains accessible indefinitely.
Your rights: Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data I hold about you
- Request correction of any inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Object to or restrict how I process your data
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, or if you have any questions about how I handle your data, contact me at hello@olivehouse.co.
Photographs on my website and social media: I may use select photographs from your wedding on my website, portfolio, and social media channels to showcase my work. If you'd prefer your images not to be used publicly, just let me know — I'm happy to respect that and it can be included in our contract.
